Pakistanis are protesting a U.S. jury’s conviction of Dr Aafia Siddiqui accused of trying to kill Americans while detained in Afghanistan, terming it a false and biased verdict that analysts fear will further fuel anti-American sentiments in the nation.

The nationwide protests underscored the fierce passions surrounding the tale of Aafia Siddiqui.

The 37-year-old U.S.-educated neuroscientist went missing for five years until being picked up by Afghan police in 2008. The U.S. claims she shot at American military personnel who came to interrogate her after her arrest.

But Pakistanis believe the U.S. fabricated the charges. Many believe the Americans had long kept Siddiqui in a secret prison, allegations the U.S. never addressed.

Thursday’s protests, organized by many religious, political, civil society and professional bodies in almost all the major cities and towns, drew thousands across Pakistan. Pakistan’s government also has expressed dismay over the verdict.

Australia won the fourth one-day international in Perth by 135 runs to take a 4-0 series lead against Pakistan at the WACA ground in Perth on Friday.

Harris took his second consecutive five-wicket haul (5/19) in this match as Australia is one win away from to complete a clean sweep of the five match ODI series against Pakistan.

The hosts had made 8 for 277 from their allotted 50 overs and Pakistan never looked capable of reaching its victory target with the loss of opening batsman Salman Butt (0) in the first over setting the tone for the innings.

But, Pakistan was eventually all out for 142 in the 38th over and Umar Akmal (38) and Shahid Afridi (29) are the top scorers
