Madonna, daughter joint fashion collection

Madonna has initiated her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes into life as a Material Girl, with the pair collaborating on a fashion line for juniors to be launched in July.

The “Material Girl” collection will be available at Macys and macys.com from late July in time for the new school year, according to a statement on Madonna’s website.

The American singer, 51, said she had really enjoyed designing a fashion collection for Swedish fashion chain H&M three years ago but it was her daughter Lourdes, nicknamed Lola, who really wanted to do this collection.

“I’ve been involved in business meetings, but Lola’s really doing the work. I just sit in the corner on my BlackBerry!” Madonna told Us Weekly magazine in an interview to hit the newsstands on Wednesday.

Madonna said her daughter’s style was “inspired by kids she sees in hip-hop and ballet classes, European influences, bands she listens to”.

“You could say it’s in the DNA — but I could never tell her how to dress!” said Madonna.

“She also comes to my photo and video shoots, pulls outfits together and gives her input to a lot of my fashion-designer friends. Whether it’s Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney, they always ask her what she thinks.”

Nazia Hassan (April 3, 1965 ‘ August 13, 2000) was an iconic Pakistani pop singer. Her song “Aap Jaisa Koi” from the film Qurbani made her a legend and pop icon in Pakistan and all of South Asia in the 80s where she is admired and loved even today, several years after her death.

The Queen of pop singing and Sweetheart of Pakistan are a few titles associated with Nazia Hassan.

She was the most influencial and popular female singer and probably the only real pop singer of 80’s and 90’s in both India and Pakistan.

Nazia Hassan was born in Karachi, Pakistan and from an early age showed interest in music. Nazia’s professional career started at the age of fifteen when she provided the lead vocals for the song Aap Jaisa Koi for a Bollywood film titled Qurbani (1980), by Indian producer-director Feroz Khan.The song was a huge success in India and despite Nazia being a Pakistani, she gained overnight fame there.

Then released Nazia’s first mega-hit, Disco Deewane. The album broke record sales in Pakistan and India and even topped the charts in the West Indies, Latin America and Russia. Her later albums also had vocals of her brother, Zoheb Hassan. These included Star/Boom Boom (1982), Young Tarang  (1984), Hotline  (1987), and Camera Camera  (1992).

She was known to be the “Sweetheart of Pakistan” and “The Nightingale of East”. Nazia Hassan is still the symbol of grace, sacred beauty and innocence and is frequently compared to Princess Diana as she was known to possess a heart of gold. Nazia spent her teenage between Karachi and London where she would go on to read law at a London University.[citation needed]. Nazia was married on March 30, 1995 to Mirza Ishtiaq Baig. This marriage was a complete failure and Nazia Hassan got divorced just before her demise.

Nazia Hassan died in August 13, 2000 in London after a prolonged battle with lung cancer  at the young age of 35.

The Government of Pakistan has conferred upon Nazia Hassan the highest civilian award Pride of Performance. The award was presented to Mrs. Muniza Basir, mother of Nazia Hassan by the President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf in an official ceremony held at Islamabad on 23rd March 2002.

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza on Tuesday announced that she will marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in Hyderabad on April 15, but made it clear that the marriage of an Indian and a Pakistani sports star is not a “political statement”.

Addressing her first press conference since the news about her engagement with Shoaib Malik broke on Monday, Sania said that both the families are very happy. “You can not ask for any thing more,” she said.

Sania’s father Imran Mirza said that the Nikaah ceremony will be held in Hyderabad on April 15 and Walima (reception) will be hosted in Lahore, Shoaib’s home town.

Sania said that she will continue to play even after her marriage and will think of children only after playing 2012 Olympics. “I’m yet to marry and here you are asking about my children,” said Sania.

She revealed that she will settle in Dubai after the marriage. “Dubai has always been a second home to me. I will miss my parents but it is only a three hours flight away.”

She said that this was the right for her to marry as she was nursing injuries. “I have lot of free time on my hands, I guess,” she said.

“I will keep playing for India and he will inshallah play for Pakistan,” she said.

When asked whom she will support in an India-Pakistan match, she said “I will support India but I will also support my husband.”

When quizzed about the tensions between the two nations and her marriage, Sania said, “I think we are getting married.  We are not making any statement politically, it is simple. The way you will marry, I’m  also getting married.

“On such a happy occasion carrying sweets in your hands you should not talk like this. You should be happy that I am getting married,” she said.

On being asked whether their marriage will help in improving the relations between India and Pakistan, Sania said, “Is that what we are really looking or we are getting married? Not really, we are getting married that is it. That is period. That is the only thing on our minds right now.”

When asked about the recent controversy over Shoaib’s marriage to another Hyderabadi girl Ayesha Siddiqui and whether it is on her mind, Sania said, “No. Of course not. Otherwise I won’t be standing here and telling you I am getting married to him.”

“I have always lived in the present and so has he. So we all made a decision to live in the present and we are all very happy with what is going on.”

Load shedding still plagues country despite govt tall claims.

Power crisis in the country has intensified with electricity shortfall increased ro 4800 megawatts.

To meet the deficit urban areas undergoing eight to ten hours load shedding, while rural areas suffering 10 to 14 hours power outages daily making life living hell for the people.

According to sources, presently Pakistan produces 9900 megawatts electricity while it needs 14700 megawatts, which shows 4800 MW deficit between demand and supply.

The rising water level at Mangla Dam and starting of 300 MW Hub power plant will help to curtail the load shedding hours, D.G. PEPCO Mohammed Khalid said.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik are engaged and likely to tie the knot next month, family sources told local TV Channel on  Monday.

The channel reported that the two sporting superstars are engaged and will be married in April.

Incidentally, Shoaib was earlier alleged to have married another Hyderabad girl, Ayesha Siddiqui, in 2002, over telephone even though the cricketer said he was merely engaged to her.

Ayesha’s father had also threatened to sue Malik for jilting his daughter and not agreeing to a divorce.

According to the channel, Shoaib’s mother met Sania’s parents in India and accepted her as her future daughter-in-law.

The Walima or reception is expected to be in Lahore on April 16 or 17, news reports said, however, Sania’s father was quoted as saying that the date for the marriage has not yet finalized.

Sources was quoted as saying that Sania and Shoaib fell in love some six-and-half months ago and it could be the reason for the breaking up of Sania’s engagement with childhood friend Sohrab Mirza.

“I desire to get married soon. You will soon get some good news but it depends on my family. I fully expect to get married this year,” Shoaib had said in a recent interaction with the media in Islamabad.

Asked if it would be an arranged marriage, he replied, “No one can say what will happen, but it will take place with the concurrence of my family.”

An encounter between police and a group of outlaws is underway in outskirts of the city as law enforcement personnel is striving to arrest a notorious gangster linked with underworld, ARY NEWS reports Sunday.

Reportedly, a police party conducted a raid in Mawach Goth area on the tip-off about presence of Razzaq Commando, a big gun of underworld gang of Liyari.

The police partly later faced severe resistance from the criminals. Extra contingent of rangers were called afterwards. The shootout is still in progress.

The gun battle was underway between police and the gagsters since 3:30 pm.

Talking to ARY NEWS, SSP Kemari Naeem Shaikh said police is striving to capture the gangster Razzaq Commando. He, however, said number of the criminals was unclear.

“Commando is involved in kidnapping for ransom, murders, smuggling and such other crimes,” he said.

Police says the gangsters have been surrounded from all sides, ensuring that protection of citizens would be their first priority during the encounter.

Officials said the criminals were using modern weaponry including hand grenades and rocket launchers.

Northern Bypass has been closed to the traffic and all the exit and entrance routs of the area have been sealed.

North Korea Vows Nuclear Strikes in Latest Threat

North Korea’s military warned South Korea and the United States on Friday of “unprecedented nuclear strikes” over a report the two countries plan to prepare for possible instability in the totalitarian country. The North routinely issues such warnings and officials in Seoul and Washington react calmly.

Diplomats in South Korea and the U.S. instead have repeatedly called on Pyongyang to return to international negotiations aimed at ending its nuclear programs. “Those who seek to bring down the system in the (North), whether they play a main role or a passive role, will fall victim to the unprecedented nuclear strikes of the invincible army,” North Korea’s military said in comments carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

The North, believed have enough weaponized plutonium for at least half a dozen atomic bombs, conducted its second atomic test last year, drawing tighter U.N. sanctions.

Experts from South Korea, the U.S. and China will meet in China next month to share information on North Korea, assess possible contingencies in the country, and consider ways to cooperate in case of an emergency situation, South Korea’s Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported earlier this month, citing unidentified sources in Seoul and Beijing. The experts will also hold follow-up meetings in Seoul in June and in Honolulu in July, it said.

The North Korean statement Friday specifically referred to the March 19 newspaper report.

A South Korea’s Defense Ministry spokeswoman said she would check the report.

South Korean media have reported that Seoul has drawn up a military operations plan with the United States to cope with possible emergencies in the North. The North says the U.S. plots to topple its regime, a claim Washington has consistently denied. Last month, the North also threatened a “powerful _ even nuclear _ attack,” if the U.S. and South Korea went ahead with annual military drills. There was no military provocation from North Korea during the exercises.

China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the U.S. have been trying to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons in six party talks. The North quit the negotiations last year. The fate of the North’s nuclear weapons has taken on added urgency since late 2008 as concerns over the health of leader Kim Jong Il have intensified.

Kim, who suffered an apparent stroke in 2008, may die within three years, South Korean media have reported. His death is thought to have the potential to trigger instability and a power struggle in the North.
